Terms of use
Last updated 30 October 2026
The Universe Counts is free to read. By using it you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use the site.
The numbers
Every number here has a source, a date and a grade for how certain it is, and we work to keep them right. Still, estimates change, live readings can lag or stop, and we make mistakes. The site is for understanding, not for navigation, safety or any decision where a wrong number could hurt someone. For those, go to the source we cite.
If you find an error, tell us and we will fix it.
Using our work
The words, visuals and design are ours. You are welcome to quote a few lines or share a number, with a link to the page it came from. For anything more, such as republishing a page or using a visual in your own work, ask us first.
The data behind the numbers belongs to the agencies and scientists we cite. Images carry their own credits and licences.
Accounts
If you make an account, use your own email address and keep your sign-in to yourself. We may close an account that is used to harm the site or other people. You can delete yours at any time.
Treat the site kindly
Don't try to break into the site, overload it, or copy it wholesale with automated tools. Search engines and other well-behaved crawlers are welcome; robots.txt says where.
Links to other sites
We link to our sources and to other sites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for what they say.
No guarantees
The site is provided as it is. We don't promise that it will always be available or free of errors. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for losses that come from using the site or relying on it. Nothing here limits rights that the law says can't be limited.
Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. How we handle your data is on the privacy page.
